Working and Living in Toronto

U of T's distinguished faculty, institutional record of groundbreaking scholarship and wealth of innovative academic opportunities continually attract outstanding students and academics from around the world.

Most of the basic research is concentrated in Toronto’s city centre and we are at the heart of this. Within a two kilometre radius of The Donnelly Centre, on the University of Toronto’s campus, there are nine research hospitals, roughly 5,000 principal investigators and research budgets totalling about Can $1 billion(US 990 million) a year. These include The Hospital for Sick Children, The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital and  St. Michael’s.

Members of the Donnelly Centre  are formally affiliated with many different institutions but they have one goal: passionate, collaborative, multidisciplinary research.

LIVING HERE:

view of downtown toronto from the donnelly centre The Donnelly Centre is located in the heart of Toronto, one of the world's most multicultural cities and Canada's largest.

Whether you want to explore an exhaustive collection of minerals at the Royal Ontario Museum, check out a Picasso exibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario, or sample cuisine from every corner of the globe, it is all there within walking distance from the Donnelly. The same goes for commercial centres and major city parks, where Torontonians go to cool off during hot summer days.

Nearby is Lake Ontario, with a shore that boasts a vibrant sailing community and gives walkers, runners, bikers and others a rest from the city’s furor. As the weather cools off, skating rinks begin to pop up at every corner with the largest downtown outdoor rink at Nathan Phillips Square, where the party is on for most of the winter.

Donnelly Centre members are invited to use all year round numerous UofT sport facilities , including gyms, indoor running track, indoor swimming pool, which are all located within a 5 minute walk from the Donnelly.

Toronto is home to many globally recognized cultural events. While it may seem as if the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), taking place in September, turns the city into a frenzy of red carpets and camera flashes, the movie selection is crafted to satisfy a wide range of genres, never disappointing the fussiest of cinemagoers.

Other kinds of expression in the city include a major jazz festival, the third largest live theatre centre in the English-speaking world and without exaggeration, a couple of thousand ethnic restaurants.

Toronto is also home to four major sport teams, which include hockey’s Maple Leafs and basketball’s Raptor’s
