Welcome to the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research.
The Donnelly Centre is a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research institute, with stunning open concept spaces, where scientists at all stages of their careers interact, thinking about the next big questions and inventing new technologies to tackle them. We take unbiased, systems-level approaches to understand the basic biology of living organisms, generating new knowledge that can be harnessed for novel insights into human health and disease.
In its first 15 years since opening in 2005, Donnelly Centre investigators have taken both experimental and computational approaches for mapping biological networks on a global scale, including genetic, protein-protein, and gene expression networks. Our teams have also developed new methods for engineering stem cells, tissues and organs, with the goal of advancing regenerative medicine, among other fields. These fundamental studies have translated to important foundational insights into cellular mechanics behind cancer, blindness, autism and other diseases and syndromes, opening new possibilities for diagnosis and treatment.
It is my great honor to lead this outstanding group of researchers following the stepping down of our founding director, Brenda Andrews, under whose leadership the Centre has become an internationally renowned hub for systems biology and biomedicine.
At the Donnelly Centre, we strive to combine the pursuit of pure knowledge with a drive to turn-key insights into tangible progress in medicine. Last year, we opened our own incubator dedicated to Donnelly platforms and new start-up companies. The Accelerator for Donnelly Collaboration (AcDC) was launched thanks to a generous gift of Terrence Donnelly, whose initial gift helped found the Centre that was established under guidance from research visionaries, Professors Cecil Yip and James Friesen.
As we look to the next 15 years, we will continue to attract the best minds from all over the globe while expanding upon our current programs and developing new groundbreaking research initiatives. I encourage you to visit the individual lab websites of our principal investigators to see how the Donnelly Centre is transforming the study of biology and biomedical research.
